I am a Folklorist.
Whatever medium I choose to work with whether it is paint, glass, stone, skin or bone the underlying message concerns cultural identity and mythology. Frequently I utilize the inspiration from works of people who came before me, my ancestors and my precedents both historically and in the art world. I take my inspiration as it comes and do my best to use my talents to embellish the narrative.
Magic. Imagination. Cultural identity. Following the elusive dictates of my Muse …
Folkloric stories are not set in stone. They change from region to region, from teller to re-teller, the basic story changes and evolves and yet remains the same, only embellished upon. I’m just picking up the baton and trying to push the stories further imputing my resources. Each and every one of us has a story to tell. We all have our own perspective and bring to the table our own knowledge and history. Everybody knows something the rest of us don’t. Everyone has the capacity to embellish every story. Some will stick, some will drop off, and some will change the narrative.
I am just expanding the material to keep it fresh and moving forward hoping it will inspire others to contribute.
So... My work is in collections, I've had public commissions ... Please judge my art on its own merit and how it resonates with you and not because someone else liked it.
