A 4-Year Performance Residency to Examine Responses + Propose Interactive Antidotes
IN late 2016, Melissa Birch founded the Presidensity Project, a 4-year performance residency designed to examine, document and propose cultural and community responses to the 2016 election through an interactive, live arts lens.
'This project isn’t about a fake presidency. There's nothing new in reality tv. This project is more of a wake. It’s the dynamite exploding in the cave and the cave itself. A lot like theater! I’m familiar with the challenges of producing original theater on a semi-large scale in the Twin Cities, adapting to audience preferences and thinking on my feet. During the W years, we cranked out a new Red Curtain Cabaret every month.'
