Avivo ArtWorks (formerly Spectrum ArtWorks) is a
multi-faceted art program that supports artists living with mental illness. A significant component to ArtWorks programming is to organize projects that challenge stigma and raise mental health awareness. One of the ways the program achieves this is by supporting a specific collective of artists who are committed to their art careers. They are known as the Avivo ArtWorks Collective. "Stages: One Step at a Time" presents art from the group and is curated by collective members Faye Buffington-Howell and Shining Starr.
Avivo ArtWorks Collective Mission Statement:
“As a collective of artists, we embrace diversity, build community, and present publicly. In doing so, we are challenging mental health stigma, and demonstrating that people living with mental illness can achieve success in art and life. We also aim towards building personal leadership, encouraging individuality, and supporting one another in our lives and in recovery.”
The art on display ranges in art mediums, personal voices, and expresses a diverse set of mental health experiences.
