∞ mile (infinite mile) is a journal of art and cultures in Detroit that published monthly online issues from December 2013 - November 2016 at www.infinitemiledetroit.com and annual print anthologies designed by local designers. Almost all the contributors of ∞ mile spent a significant amount of time in Detroit and work in the art and cultural community. Through reviews, interviews, articles, writings, artist projects and photo essays, ∞ mile fostered critical discourse in support of art and culture in Detroit. Inflecting on Detroit and its nuanced, experimental and diverse art scene, ∞ mile sought to proliferate and formalize discussions and critique.
∞ mile gave critical local perspective on issues related to art and culture in Detroit. Over three years, ∞ mile published 94 essays and interviews, 51 artist projects, 26 reviews, 27 works of fiction or poetry, involving 78 contributors. To cover topics beyond the scope of single articles or artist projects, ∞ mile partnered with the University of Michigan Stamps School of Art & Design to organize two series and a conference. ∞ mile gained critical acclaim and was funded primarily through public and private grants. Free from some of the constraints of the art market and yet comprised mostly by artists, ∞ mile discussed some of the more difficult topics facing art and cultures in and outside of Detroit.
∞ mile was co-founded by stephen garrett dewyer and Jennifer Junkermeier.
